YONKERS - Rep. Nita Lowey held a roundtable discussion in Westchester Monday to discuss the president’s promised repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

While most of the prominent faces in medicine across the Hudson Valley were in attendance, three everyday mothers stole the spotlight.

Lowey invited the mothers to share their struggles in front of Hudson Valley's top health care professionals, including seven hospital CEOs. They predicted chaos, confusion and catastrophe should the Affordable Care Act be repealed without a replacement.

Marion Ashes, of Irvington, says the Affordable Care Act allowed her to pursue her lifelong dream of starting her own business. Jackie Drexler, of Rockland, said it meant having insurance after spending most of her adult years without it and gave her peace of mind for her family.  The act also gave Judith Tahen a sense of security after a childhood lacking it.

Lowey promised to head back to Washington, D.C. ready for battle.

“I look forward to going to D.C. with my boxing gloves on and working with Republicans who are actually willing to listen,” she says.

Lowey says her office crunched the numbers and determined that repealing ‘Obamacare’ would strip insurance for just under 3 million New Yorkers, including 130,000 people in Westchester and Rockland counties.
