SOMERS - A northern Westchester elementary school is giving students a hands-on lesson about giving back.

Primrose Elementary School students in Somers are making care packages that will go to kids who have lived through some sort of disaster whether it be an earthquake or a hurricane. The packages have a pillow, a teddy bear, some books, a blanket and more.

The relief effort is organized by the parents of Stephanie Crispinelli, who tragically lost her life during the 2010 Haiti earthquake. She was there to deliver food to kids in orphanages. This annual event is a way for Stephanie's parents to keep her spirit alive.

Each year, kids from the school’s first and second grade, and their teachers, spend the morning putting together comfort packages and donating them to the Red Cross. "It's really fun. Deep down, when I give these care packs to other people, I feel like I'm happy," says student Derek Kuchinsky.
