CARMEL - A Carmel woman is under arrest and facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly neglecting her dog.

Officials say the 15-year-old mix-breed named Suzy was starving, had sores on its body and ulcers on its face and hind legs. It was recently brought to a northern Westchester veterinarian’s office, where it died.

Owner Kathryn Destefano, 26, will be arraigned early next month.

Officials with the SPCA says it was one of the worst cases of animal starvation they have ever seen.
