John Terzani, of East Fishkill, killed in police standoff

EAST FISHKILL - A Hudson Valley man is dead after a five-hour standoff with police in East Fishkill.

Police say they were called to a domestic incident at the home of John Terzani in the early hours today.

Negotiators spent five hours trying to convince Terzani, a Mahopac High School graduate, to peacefully surrender.

Eventually, the negotiations broke down and officers failed to subdue Terzani with a Taser. Cops say Terzani then pointed a handgun at officers, prompting an officer to react with a rifle.

Terzani was taken to a hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was pronounced dead.
