Indian Point emergency sirens all sound

Alarms for the nuclear power facility will be heard across the Hudson Valley. (2/19/14)

BUCHANAN - The Indian Point Energy Center tested its emergency siren system this morning.

The sirens sounded at full volume for about four minutes at 10:30 a.m. All 172 alarms were heard across Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties.

Plant officials stress that the sirens were not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local EAS radio or television station for important information and direction.
