CORTLANDT - About 200 people attended a town hall meeting Wednesday night with Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, wanting to know more about the planned closing of the Indian Point nuclear power plant in 2021.

The plant's Unit 2 is set to close in April 2020 and Unit 3 is due for shutdown in 2021. The questions coming from residents in the “Ask Astorino Forum” showed worry about higher electric bills, rising taxes and job losses.

The county executive, a staunch opponent to closing Indian Point, says the decision has been made and must be dealt with responsibly.

"We're not going to wait for the state to come up with a plan," he says. "We want to protect our businesses and our families."

A second public forum on the closing of Indian Point is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at Cortlandt Town Hall.
