PEEKSKILL - After being homeless for almost a year, a Peekskill veteran has moved into his own apartment with furniture free of charge from a local store.

Air Force veteran Doug Ferguson moved into the apartment earlier this month, but had no furniture at all. On Thursday, a moving truck pulled up in his driveway.

Movers from Basset Furniture made the very special delivery and brought a team of decorators along with them.

When Basset heard about Ferguson, a 14-year veteran of the Air Force who had fallen on hard times, it wanted to help.

Basset donated $16,000 worth of furnishings to Ferguson and another northern Westchester veteran today. This is the sixth such donation Basset has made in six months.
