YONKERS - High winds and low humidity have the Hudson Valley under a red flag warning for the risk of a wildfire.
Those conditions fanned the flames of a brush fire in Ocean County, N.J. today. Dozens of firefighters scrambled to put out the blaze while school districts had to reroute school buses.
Firefighters are asking for the public's help in cutting down on the number of forest fires accidentally set by humans. Rockland County Fire Coordinator Gordon Wren says to avoid starting campfires.
"If you are hiking, even though you're not supposed to, you shouldn't be starting campfires," said Wren. "Bring a sandwich today, instead of building a campfire with hot dogs."
