MOUNT VERNON - A gunman opened fire outside a club early Tuesday morning in Mount Vernon, wounding two men.

Police say the shooting happened at around 5 a.m. outside the Club Universe Restaurant and Lounge on East Third Street.

Jamal Abdullah, who owns a store across the street from the club, says he hid on the floor in his store for three hours after hearing gunshots and people pleading for their lives.

A fight allegedly broke out at the club and police say it spilled outside onto East Third Street. Police say a man opened fire on two others as they tried getting into a car. Both were wounded and taken to the hospital, where they are in stable condition.
