HAVERSTRAW - A gas leak forced dozens of residents from their homes in Rockland County this morning.

Utility crews and first responders evacuated about 30 people from the Bayside Building at the Harbors at Haverstraw complex on Leeward Drive around 8:30 a.m. today.

Officials say some contractors were in the area, as part of construction to put up another building, and hit the gas main causing damage. There was no fire or explosion.

Residents were allowed back in their building shortly after 10 a.m. No one was hurt in the incident, but many were shaken in light of yesterday's explosion in East Harlem.
