Funeral held for Army Capt. Clayton Carpenter, who died in a helicopter crash
YORKTOWN - The funeral for U.S. Army Capt. Clayton Carpenter was held today at Schrub Oak Church.
Family and friends gathered Friday in Yorktown to remember Carpenter, who died last week in a helicopter crash. The 31-year-old was killed when the Blackhawk helicopter he was piloting made a hard landing at Hunter Army Airfield, outside of Savannah, Ga.
His body was flown home Thursday and was taken to the wake in Yorktown accompanied by a full police escort from LaGuardia Airport.

Carpenter's dad says his son died doing what he loved and was clever, smart and diplomatic. He also says Carpenter was supposed to introduce his girlfriend to his parents for the first time the weekend after his death.
The Cortlandt Manor native graduated from Lakeland High School in 2001 and served two tours in Iraq.
Local elected officials who had never met the man say they are saddened by his loss. Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi says that a memorial will be built for Carpenter in the coming months.
He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
