SPRING VALLEY - Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Hellman Memorial Chapel in Spring Valley for Peggy Nadell, a prominent Rockland County political activist.

The 80-year-old's body was found by her daughter in her Valley Cottage house on Saturday. Police say she had been violently stabbed to death.

Mourners at the funeral included local politicians, who spoke of her dedication to the community. "It's created a huge shock in our county because her reach was very far," says Rockland County Legislator Harriet Cornell. "She's been involved in a lot of community issues.

Nadell was laid to rest at the Beth David Cemetery in Elmont. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to the Valley Cottage Library.
