MOUNT KISCO - Crews were at a Mount Kisco yeshiva for most of Monday trying to demolish the building and put out hot spots after a fire on Friday.

Instead of attending classes, dozens of Yeshiva of Nitra students watched excavators and bulldozers raze the building that housed multiple classrooms and a library.

Firefighters were also on hand because there were still pockets of smoldering embers that were burning since Friday.

Officials say between 80 and 100 people were inside the yeshiva for Sabbath prayers when someone smelled smoke. The fast-moving flames quickly engulfed the building, but everyone was able to safely get out.

School officials say they'll hopefully start working on a new yeshiva as soon as possible.

"In a year or two, we will have it rebuilt," says yeshiva manager Herbert Fogel.

Fogel says there is a spacious building next door where the students are studying and staying.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it doesn't appear to be suspicious in nature.
