Fire damages house on Hudson Street in Cornwall-on-Hudson

An intense fire in Orange County has left two families homeless today. Fire officials say flames broke out just after 6 a.m. at 288 Hudson

CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON - An intense fire in Orange County has left two families homeless today.

Fire officials say flames broke out just after 6 a.m. at 288 Hudson St. in Cornwall-on-Hudson. They say when crews arrived the fire was heavy in an upstairs bedroom and that some of the windows were blown out.

Officials say the house is split into two apartments and that the five people who lived in the home, including a child, were already outside, in the freezing cold.

One neighbor told News 12 the flames were so strong, he was concerned about his own house catching fire. "I was ready to hose my own house down just in case. There were flames burning out the back, like 20 feet in the air," says Bob Langston.

Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
