Federal tax deadline looms for late filers

Abi Tiwari says some of his clients file

MOUNT KISKO - With the federal tax deadline five days away, many people in the business have barely had time to come up for air.

Abi Tiwari, a tax accountant in H&R Block's Mount Kisko office, says the looming deadline has many of the late filers he sees on edge. Tiwari says some of his clients file late in the tax season because they are waiting for documents to arrive in the mail.

The accountant says that if he could give just one bit of advice for last-minute taxpayers, it would be to be beware of tax extensions. He says they can be great if you really need them, and that Uncle Sam still gets his money at the end of the day.
