YONKERS - The birth parents of a boy who died in a Yonkers foster home want answers as to why their son died.

On Sunday evening, 2-year-old Maurice Cosme was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. Police have called his death an "open death investigation."

The child’s foster parents claim that the boy had an extensive medical history, but his birth parents say that’s not true.

"My son never had seizures," says his mother, Ashley Cosme. "He was a healthy baby. He came out fine, so I just, I don't know."

William Cuspert, the child’s father, says he suspects foul play, but will wait until the autopsy to make a final decision.

Ashley Cosme acknowledges that Child Protective Services removed her son and daughter from her care back in November. A judge placed both children with the foster parents.

Ashley Cosme is now caring for her daughter.
