MOUNT VERNON - Some Mount Vernon faith leaders criticized city officials for the ongoing violence in the city.

The move comes shortly after police arrested an alleged gang member in connection with the shooting death of 13-year-old Shamoya McKenzie, who was struck and killed by a stray bullet as she sat in her mother's car on the way home from basketball practice.

As News 12 has reported, the intended target, another alleged gang member, was struck in the arm and survived.

David Hardy, a 21-year-old former city employee, is accused of pulling the trigger.

"This is the worst I've ever seen our community," says Troy Decoe, the longtime pastor at Mount Vernon Heights Congregational Church.

Critics of city lawmakers point to the public feud between Mount Vernon's mayor and City Council.

Decoe is calling on voters to hold lawmakers accountable.

"We vote you in, and we vote you out," he says.

Hardy is being held without bail. He's due back in court next month.
