FAIRVIEW - The Fairview Fire Department has scrapped their plan to create a new six-figure position in the department at the moment.

The new job would be a deputy fire chief. Residents insisted that the position was not needed and not at that high salary.

Residents protested the proposal at a public meeting with Fairview fire commissioners.

The plan also considered consolidating fire districts.

Opponents collected petition signatures from residents supporting their cause. Officials voted at the meeting, and decided they will not need the position at the moment.
