MAHOPAC - A retired police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday in a deadly drunken driving crash on Route 206 in Mahopac in 2015.

Retired Carmel officer Richard O'Keefe pleaded guilty to one count of criminally negligent homicide for the crash that killed Somers teaching assistant Fran Ghelarducci.

First District Attorney Hannah Krauss says state police took their time doing a thorough accident investigation. They concluded that O'Keefe was speeding and drunk when he hit Ghelarducci's car after she pulled out of the Chop House Grill in Majorca and onto Route 6.

However, Krauss says the evidence shows that Ghelarducci failed to yield to the right of way of O’Keefe’s car. Krauss says that was the primary cause of the accident.

O'Keefe will likely be sentenced to 12 months in county jail. Sentencing is scheduled for April 19.
