YONKERS - DPW workers discovered dozens of bags filled with cat remains today in Yonkers.

Workers say they were doing routine cleanup in the vacant lot at 180 Overlook Terrace when they came across the remains of at least 30 cats. The remains were found in bags hanging from trees across the lot.

The Westchester SPCA says many of the cats were still decomposing, but other bags contained only skeletons. It's not clear who's responsible for the bags, but SPCA officials say they're not taking the matter lightly.

Yonkers police say an investigation is ongoing.
