Dog dies in fire on Benedict Avenue in White Plains

A White Plains woman escaped the flames that destroyed her house and killed her dog overnight. Fire officials say flames broke out in the kitchen

WHITE PLAINS - A White Plains woman escaped the flames that destroyed her house and killed her dog overnight.

Fire officials say flames broke out in the kitchen of a two-story single family house at 11 Benedict Avenue in White Plains about 2:30 a.m. today.

According to investigators, the woman living there was asleep on the second floor when the fire started. Smoke detectors woke her, and she was able to get out of the home safely.

It took about 25 firefighters 20 minutes to get the flames under control.

No one was injured, but sadly, the homeowner's dog was lost in the fire.
