DOBBS FERRY - Another student from a Westchester high school is in trouble after sending out a racist tweet.

A student from Dobbs Ferry High School has been suspended after venting on social media about the high school's girls' basketball team losing to Woodlands High School in Greenburgh. The male student used the phrases "jungle animals" and "go back to the jungle" as hashtags in the tweet, upsetting students at Woodlands.

Dobbs Ferry Superintendent Lisa Brady says the district is taking the incident seriously. "They need to make sure what they are saying, whether it's on social media or not, is that it truly represents what they are and what they feel," says Brady. The superintendent says it was an isolated incident and she does not believe any other students from the school sent racist tweets.

Matthew Crawford, a Dobbs Ferry student who knows the boy who sent the tweet, says he doesn't think he's racist, calling the tweets "a cruel joke." Crawford added he believes Dobbs Ferry is not a racist school.

Greenburgh Superintendent Ronald Ross says they're also handling the situation seriously and have spoken with students. "We haven't had those honest discussions about race and you have to teach young people with each generation," says Ross.

This latest incident happened just days after eight students at Mahopac High School were suspended for tweeting racial slurs against Mount Vernon High School following a basketball game.
