Debate honors memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

NEW ROCHELLE - Civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is being remembered nationwide today in planned parades, marches and service projects.

This weekend, dozens of local youngsters put their debating skills to the test at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Great Debater Contest.

The sixth annual contest was held yesterday at the Bethesda Baptist Church in New Rochelle. The students involved, ages 6 to 17, are from the church's Academic Pathways after-school program.

The kids debated on the political, social and economic impacts of President Barack Obama's Affordable Health Care Act.
