YONKERS - Civil Service Employees Association union workers in Yonkers held an emergency meeting Wednesday night to express concerns about recent changes to their jobs, including a new contract.

Non-educational departments at the Yonkers Board of Education have been taken over by the city. CSEA workers were told their salaries would stay the same, but they will lose so-called step increases in their contract when they change unions.

Mayor Mike Spano says it hasn't been an easy process, but one that needs to be done to help bridge a budget gap.

"While they may lose certain benefits, the base salary will remain the same, the seniority will remain the same and the health care and the civil service protection that goes along with it," he says.
