CORTLANDT - Town of Cortlandt officials gathered Thursday night to discuss concerns surrounding the impending closure of the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi was among those gathered at Town Hall on Heady Street for the first meeting of a newly formed task force. The group's goal is to address the challenges that come with the plant's closure.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo tried numerous times to shut down the plant, deeming it an environmental threat. A deal was reached last month with Entergy -- the company that owns and operates Indian Point -- that will see one reactor shut three years from April. The other will follow suit a year after that, with all operations at the Buchanan power plant ceasing by 2021.

Puglisi says about half of Buchanan's tax base comes from the plant, while Cortlandt gets about $1 million annually from Entergy.

The task force also wants to know how that revenue loss will be accounted for, in addition to whether there are plans for other companies to occupy the site.

News 12 is told that Puglisi, the school superintendent and the mayor of Buchanan will be part of a closed-door meeting Friday with state officials to get more answers regarding what the closure means for the Town of Cortlandt's future.
