College of New Rochelle reopens after lockdown

A lockdown was put into place on campus

A lockdown was put into place on campus after a student made a threat.

NEW ROCHELLE - The College of New Rochelle on Castle Place was put into lockdown this afternoon after a threat by a former student.

Campus officials put emergency procedures into place on campus at around 1 p.m. They say an ex-student made a threat against the school to another student, who then reported the conversation.

"He made reference to some alarming situations that have occurred recently on the news, violent situations.  He didn't specifically direct the threat toward anybody here, but he did make mention of a violent situation that had occurred elsewhere," said Dean of Students Elaine T. White.

New Rochelle police were called to the campus to investigate, but found nothing suspicious.

Police say they have taken the ex-student into custody.
