Child dies while under foster care in Yonkers

YONKERS - A 2-year-old boy has died while under the care of a foster family in Yonkers.

Police say the boy was brought to St. John's Hospital by his foster mother.

A doctor notified authorities, who are calling the situation an open death investigation.

The 38-year-old woman is said to have voluntarily spoken with police as they learned the child had an extensive medical history.

Neighbor Norine Duro says the family hasn't lived there long, but calls the woman a doting mother who kept a clean home and her children well cared for.
