VALHALLA - A partial roof collapse injured a student and forced the evacuation of students and staff from a building at Westchester Community College today.

The ceiling over a covered walkway into the college's Student Center, which houses a cafeteria, fell shortly after noon.

One student suffered a minor ankle injury while running from the dropping tiles. The center was closed for about a half-hour while the debris was cleaned up.

A college spokesperson told News 12 there wasn't any work going on at the building, and there is no word yet on what caused the collapse. The walkway will remain closed for the time being.

The school in Valhalla is one of 30 community colleges affiliated with SUNY and has nearly 14,000 students.
