YONKERS - A car crashed into a popular bar in Yonkers early this morning.

Police say the driver of a gray Nissan smashed into the River's Edge bar on the corner of Bronx River Road and McLean Avenue at around 3 a.m.

The driver fled the scene, and police are still searching for him. Police say they have the car and hope to make an arrest soon.

Officials say the crash may have compromised the structural integrity of the building and as a result, four families living above the bar had to be evacuated.

Ten adults, four children, two dogs and a cat will not be able to return until a building inspector completes a review. The Red Cross is helping the displaced.

Police say the restaurant will be closed during repairs, but the owner says he plans to use a banquet room in the back for the many events scheduled this month.
