PEEKSKILL - A Peekskill man has been arrested for allegedly knifing a friend in the back during a booze-fueled fight.

Police say 29-year-old Byron Lazaro stabbed the victim in front of Chaz Deli on South Street shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses told police that Lazaro and the 26-year-old victim began arguing in the store and the brawl spilled out into the street.

Authorities say the victim was coherent following the attack, and was able to assist officers in the investigation.

Lazaro was arrested at his home on nearby Cortlandt Street, and admitted he was drunk at the time of the incident. Police recovered two kitchen knives at the scene.

The victim was hospitalized, but is expected to recover.
