BEDFORD HILLS - A Bedford Hill corrections officer has been formally charged for allegedly raping an inmate.

Corrections officer Richard Rodriquez, 33, of Brooklyn, was arraigned yesterday on rape charges.

Investigators say he was on duty in December at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility when he raped a female inmate. New York law states that inmates cannot give consent, and sex between a corrections officer and inmate is statutory rape.

Rodriquez is now suspended without pay and faces four years behind bars.
