EASTCHESTER - The death of an Eastchester woman found inside her apartment Friday was likely accidental, according to autopsy results.

Police say they do not believe foul play was involved in the death of 59-year-old Ava Gardella, but they have not ruled out homicide or suicide as the cause of death.

Workers in the building say Gardella was found by her brother in her first-floor apartment located at 235 Garth Road.

According to neighbors, Gardella lived alone and suffered from mental and physical health problems. They described her as a lonely woman, who would often open her door to talk to anyone she heard walking down the hall.
