MOUNT VERNON - The attorney for accused shooter David Hardy says no physical evidence links his client to the slaying of a 13-year-old girl.

As News 12 has reported, the victim, Shamoya McKenzie, was struck by a stray bullet as she sat in her mother's car.

Police accuse Hardy, an alleged gang member, of targeting an alleged rival gang member named Prince Scott.

Hardy has a prior conviction of violent robbery from October 2012, for which he was on parole. He allegedly fled to South Carolina after McKenzie's slaying.

During Tuesday's arraignment, the judge issued orders of protection for about a dozen members of the McKenzie family, and warned anyone who might want to retaliate against them to know they were a "protected family."
