YONKERS - The attorney for the rabbi accused of impersonating a police officer multiple times says his client has a mental health history.

Rabbi Alfredo Borodowski's attorney says his client is now being treated for bipolar disorder. Borodowski is accused of impersonating a police officer and attempting to pull over drivers three times over the past month.

The attorney says the religious leader has been undergoing mental health treatment for several years. The rabbi also allegedly suffers from depression.

"His condition is not being offered as an excuse, but rather an explanation for his unusual behavior," the attorney said.

The attorney says the rabbi is receiving intensive treatment and medication for the disorder, and has been hospitalized for the past several weeks.
