YONKERS - National animal rights groups are now offering a combined $23,000 reward for information to help catch the person responsible for killing two dozen cats found in a Yonkers lot.

Experts are also looking into what kind of person would commit such an act.

Last Thursday, DPW workers found two dozen bags of dead cats hanging from trees at an empty lot on Overlook Terrace.

Police say that the cats were likely all killed by blunt force trauma. They say that the killings went on for at least a year.

Dr. Mark Sirkin, a behavioral psychologist at Mercy College, says that the patterns in the case can determine how mentally unstable this person is.

Experts say they have no doubt that whoever killed the cats and hung them has a mental illness, but they say future violent behavior is unpredictable and depends on the person's delusional system.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund, PETA and the Humane Society are offering the $15,000 reward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Yonkers SPCA.
