A mixed martial arts specialist in Rockaway is teaching police officers how to subdue a suspect with as little force as possible using Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Joe Farina, of Pure Mixed Martial Arts, says he's teaching officers how to control a suspect using technique and leverage without striking.

Farina say it doesn't take long to learn. The class focuses on using body weight techniques and leverage to get a suspect into handcuffs without a single strike being used.

He says with the right training, it should take no more than 100 seconds to tire out the suspect and subdue them.

The class is free to all law enforcement including police, sheriff and corrections every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
